Melasma is a skin condition where you may find brown or blue-grey patches on your skin. Melasma is uncommonly also known as Chloasma. Melasma is also called the mask of pregnancy because it occurs due to the overproduction of the cells that handle the color of the skin.
Melasma is harmless, and it may usually fade away in a few months. The spots or patches of Melasma may also look like Freckles. It is mostly found on your face, especially your cheeks, upper lips, and forehead.

Melasma is harmless, but people become self-conscious of it. And, this disorder may often get worse in summers, as it typically becomes dark. People find Melasma unattractive so it is often treated for cosmetic purposes.
There are three types of Melasma: – Epidermal, Dermal, and Mixed Melasma. Our dermatologist will examine melasma with Wood’s lamp to check out the changes in the color of the skin. They may also undergo a biopsy to not to mistake the Melasma with any other skin disorders. Melasma is not easy to treat and depending on the person it may be permanent, or it may fade away in 3 months. In most cases, it fades away soon.
